Sunnyside Mennonite Montessori School is a single-classroom school, with approximately 20 students each year. We have a teacher and an assistant in the classroom each day, providing consistency for the children's classroom experience. Our program is a half-day program, four days a week (with a limited three days a week option for newcomers). Our weekly schedule is Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 am - 12:00 pm.
Using the educational philosophy put forth by Maria Montessori, our teachers provide a safe, loving, nurturing environment, facilitating learning opportunities for the children to grow in their independence. Applications for the 2023-24 school year are now open. Call (971-266-0701) or email to schedule a tour and/or ask questions about the school’s program. |
Our family has had a wonderful experience at SMMS, always feeling that we are a team working together to provide the best experience for our children. We have sent both of our sons here, and are confident that SMMS provides them with space to work individually when desired, as well as encourages them and guides them to work together with other children. The private outdoor playground and walks around the neighborhood give our kids much needed space to get physical energy out. SMMS provides a beautiful Montessori setting for our boys to thrive!

I knew nothing about Montessori before sending my son to SMMS. I have been so delighted in this form and philosophy of education. It encourages independence, responsibility and curiosity, allowing students to approach their work at their own pace. Along with the standard letter sounds and number recognition, the wholistic approach to learning has exposed my son to mathematics, geography and life skills like sewing and slicing eggs. I am so grateful that my second son will be able to attend SMMS next year, while my oldest son enters kindergarten well equipped with the skills of self-direction, follow-through and confidence.
